Permit Process
1. Due Diligence
Research begins by determining which jurisdiction your project is reviewed by. The scope of work will determine which type of permits will be required. The research will uncover where each permit will be submitted and reviewed.
While each jurisdiction is different the general process is the same however the submittal process will vary. When researching permit submittals the jurisdictions will inform you of how the permit is submitted, fees that will be required, and the length of review time.
2. Submittal
While each jurisdiction has a different submittal process there are two general types online and mail-in. Submittal includes filling out applications, preparing any documents required, and submitting them to the appropriate jurisdictions. Some submittals may require a fee for the review to begin.
3. Review
Plans are reviewed by a plans examiner to make sure they meet the codes and regulations of the jurisdiction they are doing construction. A comment letter will be issued if corrections to the plans need to be made for construction to take place. Comments listed on the letter will need to be addressed and resubmitted to the plans examiner for re-review.
4. Approval
Once plans and documents are approved and fees are paid the permit will be issued. Jurisdiction approved and plans and the permit will be released that will need to be kept on the job site when construction begins.
